YakDrop

YakDrop extension privacy

Updated 2 November 2026. This policy describes the YakDrop browser extension provided by Yakware. Contact support@yakware.com with privacy questions.

What the extension handles

When you choose to capture or share, the extension processes the selected page content, images, files or recordings, their titles, and your Yak account identifier. Recordings may include screen, camera and microphone content when you enable those sources. Account access and refresh tokens authenticate requests to your chosen YakDrop server.

YakDrop does not collect browsing history in the background, sell your data, collect extension analytics, or use capture content for advertising. Composer helpers run only on sites you enable and insert the drop you select; they do not send your composer contents to YakDrop.

Sharing and network requests

Captures and account information are sent to your configured YakDrop server when you request sharing and workspace policy permits it. A live recording can begin uploading before you stop unless review or workspace policy requires confirmation. Media may be uploaded to storage addresses authorized by that server; your Yak account bearer token is not sent with those storage uploads. Anyone allowed by your share settings may view shared content.

Image text recognition runs locally. On first use the extension downloads English language data from jsDelivr and verifies its hash. The CDN receives the download request and network address, but no capture, recognized text, account identifier, token or page address. Executable JavaScript and WebAssembly are bundled in the extension.

Local storage and retention

Settings, captures, interrupted recordings and recovery journals are kept in your browser's private extension storage. Account tokens are kept in session storage and cleared on browser restart. Local-only captures stay local and do not become eligible for automatic upload when you disable local-only mode. Retained uploads may retry after interruptions when eligible under your settings and workspace policy.

Local captures and unfinished recording data remain until you remove them or the extension confirms completion as applicable. Uninstalling clears extension storage. It does not revoke links or delete content already shared to a server. Server-side retention and access depend on your workspace and plan; use YakDrop's share controls to revoke links or delete drops.

Your choices

You choose what to capture and whether to enable microphone, camera, recording and site access. Optional permissions can be removed in browser extension settings. You can keep new captures local, review before sharing, remove retained local captures, sign out and revoke connected devices. Image recognition can miss private details; inspect content before sharing.

For account or hosted-content deletion requests, contact your workspace administrator or support@yakware.com. If you use a separately operated YakDrop server, contact that operator about its storage and retention.
